Scope and Purpose

The Printing Standard comprises of the specifications required for printing of imagery, maps of the national series and other maps as required by the CD: NGI and its status is mandatory. These requirements shall be adhered to by CD: NGI and all outsourced printing.

Scope and Purpose 

The Standard for the Integrated Topographical Information System shall define, in relation to topographic, land cover and related ancillary data, the conceptual models and physical data structure for all enterprise data stores, metadata and the logical file structure including file naming conventions that are applicable to all other relevant standards. The standard shall include topological rules that need to be applied to topographical vector data.

Scope and purpose 

The Standard for the National Control Survey System comprises the specifications required for the maintenance and enhancement of the national control survey system and its status is mandatory. This document specifies, amongst others, the datums, coordinate systems, trigonometrical beacons, benchmarks, town survey mark, scheme and TrigNet base stations that constitute the National Control System.

Scope and purpose 

The Standard for Annotation comprises all the specifications required for annotating ancillary data on imagery used for the update of topographic information as required by the CD: NGI and its status is mandatory. This document outlines the requirements for the verification and/or capture topographic ancillary data that complies with the integrated topographic information system (iTIS) standard. The purpose of this document is to outline the requirements to be met by the Chief Directorate to add, remove and modify all topographical features that are not photogrammetrically identifiable by:

• Analysing imagery to identify queries;
• Analysing ancillary data to identify queries;
• Field verification and /or capture of identified queries, including additional ancillary data discovered that, complies with the iTIS standard.

Scope and Purpose 

The Standard for the Capture of Topographical Data comprises all the specifications required for capturing topographical data that will reside in the topographical information database (a topologically-structured geospatial database) of CD: NGI and its status is mandatory.

The Standard for the Provincial Map Series comprises all the specifications required for cartographic production of a provincial map as required by the CD: NGI.

Scope and Purpose

The objective of this document is to outline the requirements and acceptable quality levels during the computation and dissemination of the national geoid model. It includes both a gravimetric and hybrid geoid model.

The standard for Elevation Data Capture comprises all the specifications required for the production of Contour and Spotheights for CD:NGI and its status are mandatory.

Scope and Purpose   

The Standard for Image Exterior Orientation comprises all the specifications required for the provision of exterior orientation for imagery as required b the CD: NGI for its production processes which is mandatory. This document outlines the requirements for doing aerial triangulation. The purpose of the document is t outline the requirement to be met by the CD: NGI and Contractors for producing exterior orientation parameters for imagery to be used in the production processes of the CD: NGI for national mapping purposes.

Scope and Purpose

The Standard for the Map Sheet Reference System comprises all the specifications required for map sheet referencing as required by the CD: NGI and its status is mandatory. This document outlines the requirements for the referencing of all maps of the National Map Series. This document excludes rectified imagery and customised maps. The purpose of this document is to outline the requirements to be met by the Chief Directorate and Contractors for map sheet referencing of the maps produced by the CD: NGI.

Scope and Purpose
 
The Standard for the Ortho-Rectification and Mosaicking of Imagery comprises all the specifications required for ortho-rectification, mosaicking and geo-referencing of imagery for mapping purposes and its status is mandatory. The purpose of this document is to outline the requirements for the ortho-rectification, mosaicking and geo-referencing of imagery, to be adhered to by the NGI and its contractors.

Scope and Purpose
 
The Standard for the Scanning of Film-based Aerial Photography comprises all the specifications required for ortho-rectification of imagery for mapping purposes and for the provision of client imagery requirements, and its status is mandatory. This standard does not apply to imagery acquired by means of digital sensors. The purpose of this document is to outline the requirements to be met by the CD:NGI and Contractors providing scanned film-based aerial photography.

The Standard for the 1:500 000 Topographical Map Series comprises all the specifications required for cartographic production of a 1:500 000 topographical map as required by the NGI and its status is mandatory. This document excludes customised maps or maps that do not form part of the national map series.
