SA Spatial Data Infrastructure

 NGI, actively supports the NSIF, who is responsible for the implementation of South African Spatial Data Infrastructure (SASDI), supporting the Committee on Spatial Information, establishing an electronic metadata catalogue, determination of standards and prescriptions with regard to the facilitation and sharing of spatial information.

 

Data Integration/ Fusion of Disparate Data Sets

In an ideal state, data fusion technology can easily facilitate data sharing and the integration of both spatial and non-spatial data from disparate sources to create a common intelligence picture in a Web-based application environment that will create a wide benefit. For this application to be effective and usable, it must unite the resources and maintain their individual autonomy.

Implementation of SA Spatial Data Infrastructure

The Spatial Data Infrastructure Act, 2003 was passed by Parliament in December 2003. The President assented to the Act in February 2004. The aim of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Act (Act No.54 of 2003) is to provide for the establishment of the South African Spatial Data Infrastructure (SASDI) in order to regulate the collection, management, maintenance, integration, distribution and utilization of spatial/geographic information. NGI is a major role player in the implementation of South African Spatial Data Infrastructure (SASDI).
